Vietnam participated in the 2013 Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China on 16–24 August 2013 with a delegate of 101 athletes (not including trainers and officials), competing in Boys' Football (18 athletes), Golf (3), Boys' and Girls' Handball (28), Shooting (8), Taekwondo (2), Swimming (10), Tennis (1), Athletics (10), Table Tennis (2), Badminton (3), Diving (2), Judo (6), Fencing (6) and Weighlifting (2)

At closing, Vietnam won 5 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronze. This places her at #7 in the final medal ranking table. With 3 gold medals and 1 silver, swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien was easily the top Vietnamese athlete at the Games.

Medal Winners

  • Nguyen Thi Anh Vien: 3 gold medals in 50m backstroke, 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley. She also won a silver in 100m backstroke.
  • Tran Duy Khoi: bronze in boys' 200m individual medley
  • Ly Hoang Nam: gold medal in boys' tennis
  • Nguyen Thi Truc Mai: gold medal in girls' long jump
  • Nguyen Thi Lan: silver medal in girls' 100m hurdle
