Yeon is the Revised Romanisation spelling of an element in Korean given names. The meaning differs based on the hanja used to write it. There are 39 hanja with the reading "yeon" on the South Korean government's official list of hanja which may be registered for use in given names.[1]

In 1980, one name containing this element, Ji-yeon, was the 7th-most popular name for newborn girls in South Korea.[2] In the 2000s and 2010s, another name containing this element, Seo-yeon, became the most popular name for newborn girls in South Korea, as well as a common name for adult women name changing their names once name changes began to be allowed in 2000.[3][4][5]
