Werner Schley (born 25 January 1935 in Basel - died 30 May 2007 in Mallorca, Spain) was a Swiss footballer who played as a goalkeeper during the 1950s and 1960s.
Football career
Schley began his career with Nordstern Basel in 1951 before moving to FC Basel in 1952. Basel won their first league title in 1953, with club legend René Bader as player-manager. In 1953 he signed for Grasshopper Club Zürich, but returned to FC Basel after just one season. Then, in 1958, he signed for FC Zürich and retired in 1965.
He earned three caps for the Swiss national team, making his international debut in a 5-1 defeat to Yugoslavia on 25 April 1959 in Basel. His last appearance was in a 3-1 win over the Netherlands in Zürich on 18 May 1960.
He also coached Grasshopper, FC Luzern and FC Winterthur.[1]
