Umut Bulut (Turkish pronunciation: [ˈumut ˈbuɫut], born 15 March 1983) is a Turkish footballer who plays for Galatasaray and the Turkish national team.

Club career

Trabzonspor

Due to the goal scorer Fatih Tekke leaving the club, and the team and having difficulties, Trabzonspor signed Umut. The transfer fee was €1.8 million for a 4-year contract. He was given the number 10 jersey which was previously worn by Hami Mandıralı. His first match was on 5 August 2006, against Kayserispor. The following week he scored his first goal for the team in a 1–1 draw against Manisaspor. He scored 88 goals in 197 official games for Trabzonspor, where he won the 2010 Turkish Super Cup as well as the 2009–10 Turkish Cup, scoring in the final against rivals Fenerbahçe in a 3-1 win.

Toulouse

In 28 June 2011, he signed with Toulouse FC for €4.8 million. Umut made his Ligue 1 Debut against Ajaccio. One week later on 13 August 2011, scored he his first goal against Dijon FCO and second goal against Nancy which was also the only goal of the game as Toulouse won 1–0. In the 17th week of the season, scored he a winning goal against Evian in a 2–1 win. The other 2 goals were against Lyon and one of them was an outstanding long range shot. After his first season his brilliant performance caught the eye of many teams.[1]

Galatasaray

26 June 2012, Umut joined Galatasaray on loan until the end of the season.[2] Umut scored his 2 goals on his début for Galatasaray against their rivals Fenerbahçe during the game for the 2012 Turkish Super Cup Final. Galatasaray won the game 3–2, where he became the Man of the Match.

On 20 August 2012 Umut made his debut in the 2012–13 Süper Lig game against Kasımpaşa in the starting 11, where he scored the 2 Goals for Galatasaray as the game finished 2–1. Umut scored in the second game in an equalizing goal against Beşiktaş as the game finished 3–3. On 2 September 2012 Umut scored again in the opening goal of the match against Bursaspor as the game ended 3–2, making Galatasaray's 1000th League win in history. Umut's next goal came on 15 September 2012, when he scored a late goal in the 90th Minute as Galatasary won the game 4–0 against Antalyaspor. He made a brilliant start in the 2012–13 Süper Lig season scoring 5 league goals in the first 4 weeks and eliminated Saša Ilić's record. On 19 October scored he an important goal for Galatasaray when they were trailing 3–2 against Gençlerbirliği right before his team mate Hakan Balta scored the last goal and the game ended 3–3. After disappointing matches both in the Süper Lig and Champions League during the month of October. Umut returned with another excellent performance and scored the opener against Kayserispor in a 3–0 win. The following week he again scored the opener from teammate Burak Yılmaz's assist against İstanbul BB as the game ended 3–1, his 10th goal of the season.

Following his successful loan spell, Galatasaray officially signed Bulut from Toulouse on a 3+1 year deal for €2.7 million.[3]
