Thiago Carleto Alves or simply Carleto (born March 24, 1989), is a Brazilian footballer who plays for São Paulo as a left back.

Career

Born in São Bernardo do Campo, Carleto was made professional debut for Santos in the São Paulo State Championship against Juventus-SP on April 11, 2007.[1]

Move to Europe

On November 25, 2008, it was announced that Spanish club Valencia CF signed Thiago until 2014.[2] On August 20, 2009, he was loaned to Elche CF.[3] He made just one league appearance for Valencia and eight for Elche before returning to South America.[4]

Return to South America

In February 2010 after some days São Paulo announced to signed definitively the left back, who coming from Valencia, the footballer signed a contract until 2014.[5]

Following a year of diminishing possibilities of starring in the São Paulo first team, the club had given him permission to move to another club on a loan basis. As a result, Carleto has been signed to Olimpia Asuncion for the 2011 season, but he failed to adapt to the new surroundings and following that ended the contract with Olimpia in three months after joining the club.[6]

On 6 May 2011, he moved to the newly promoted Brazilian Série A club América Mineiro on loan from São Paulo. In January 2012, following América's relegation from Série A, Carleto was again loaned by São Paulo and will spend the 2012 season at Fluminense. Despite his good moment playing for tricolor carioca, Carleto return to São Paulo, owner of his rights, for 2013 season, being in Ney Franco's, coach of club, plans.[7]

In February, Carleto was hired to play for Ponte Preta in 2014 season. In six games for Macaca (being four as a substitute), Carleto scored one goal.[8] Loans to Avaí, Botafogo and Piracicaba have since followed between 2014 and 2016 for Thiago Carleto.[4]
