The Edge of Seventeen originally titled Besties is an upcoming American drama film directed and written by Kelly Fremon. The film stars Hailee Steinfeld, Haley Lu Richardson, Blake Jenner, Woody Harrelson, and Kyra Sedgwick. Principal photography began on October 21, 2015 in Vancouver, and ended on December 3, 2015. STX Entertainment will release the film on September 30, 2016.
Plot
The friendship of two high school best friends, Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld) and Krista (Haley Lu Richardson), ends when Nadine finds out that Krista is secretly dating Nadine's older brother.[1]

Production
On March 30, 2011, it was announced that Gracie Films had bought a comedy script titled Besties and described as a "John Hughes-style comedy," written by Kelly Fremon, who would also make her directing debut with the film, according to the company's deal.[5] James L. Brooks would produce the film through Gracie Films along with Julie Ansell, and Brooks would also serve Fremon as a mentor on her first directing film.[5][6] On April 20, 2015, STX Entertainment acquired the American distribution rights to the currently untitled film.[6] On August 4, 2015, Hailee Steinfeld was cast in the film to play the lead role, while Richard Sakai was also attached as producer of the film.[2] On September 24, 2015, Woody Harrelson, and Kyra Sedgwick joined the film's cast, Harrelson playing the role of a high school teacher, while Sedgwick as Steinfeld's character Nadine's mother.[4] On October 6, 2015, Blake Jenner was cast in the film to play Nadine's rivalry older brother, a famous and handsome soccer player who secretly dates Nadine's best friend Krista.[1] Hayden Szeto was also cast in the film for an unspecified role, while Fremon would also produce the film.[1] Haley Lu Richardson also joined the film to play the role of best friend Krista.[3]
Principal photography on the film began on October 21, 2015 in Hollywood North, Vancouver.[7][8] Filming also took place in Metro Vancouver area, then at Guildford Park Secondary School and near Guildford Town Centre in Surrey, British Columbia.[9] Filming wrapped up on December 3, 2015.[10]
Release
The Edge of Seventeen is scheduled to be released through STX Entertainment on September 30, 2016.[3]
