The Bend Motorsport Park is an under construction 7.2 kilometre bitumen motor racing circuit near the town of Tailem Bend, South Australia, 100 kilometres south-east of the state capital, Adelaide.

The complex will host a 4.9 km (3.0 mi) bitumen circuit, drag racing strip, and drift racing circuit.[1]

The race circuits will be of a high international standard and will be licensed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) for car racing and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) for motorcycle racing.

Name

Initially titled the South Australian Motorsport Park, it will be officially known as The Bend Motorsport Park. Owner Sam Shahin revealed this in March 2016 after selecting a winner from the naming competition in 2015.[2]

History

In February 2015, Peregrine Corporation lodged plans with the Government of South Australia to redevelop the former Mitsubishi Motors Australia test track at Tailem Bend, South Australia.[3] Approval was granted in May 2015[4] with construction commencing in March 2016.[5]

Peregrine Corporation has an agreement with V8 Supercars to stage a round of the 2017 championship should the circuit be completed in time.[6] It has stated a desire to hold a MotoGP round.[7]

The Circuits

National Circuit

Length: 4.9 km

  • Will be used for majority of events including V8 Supercars, Superbikes and national series events, through to state racing, club racing and track hire

GT Circuit

Length: 7.7 km

  • Will be used for endurance racing, specialist racing events, private hire and test days
  • Unique being the longest and most challenging permanent circuit in Australia

West Circuit

Length: 3.4 km

  • Will be used for the majority of short track events. Includes club racing, testing, sprint events, “cruising” events, driver/rider training
  • Can be used independently from the East Circuit

East Circuit

Length: 3.8 km

  • Will be used for driver/rider training, drifting, testing, club days, private days
  • Can be used independently from the West Circuit[8]
