Portal:Dragon Ball
Template:/box-header gold Dragon Ball (ドラゴンボール Doragon Bōru?), created by Akira Toriyama in 1984, is an internationally famous media franchise. It consists primarily of one manga series, three different anime, eighteen animated feature films, an unofficial live-action Chinese movie, a collectible trading card game, a large number of electronic games, as well as other collectibles like action figures. Dragon Ball has an extensive online fanbase and, as of 2005[update], is consistently one of the most frequently searched-for terms on Google, Yahoo!, Lycos, and YouTube.
The narrative of Dragon Ball received some of its inspiration and various characters from the Chinese folk novel Journey to the West, though it diverges from the novel very quickly. It follows the adventures of its lead character, Son Goku (based on the Monkey King of the folk legend, Sun Wukong) from his childhood into old age. Dragon Ball originally included action and comedy elements, as well a significant amount of science fiction, though the story became more sci-fi oriented over time. Template:/box-footer

Videl (ビーデル Bīderu?) is a fictional character in the manga and anime series of Dragon Ball created by the famous mangaka Akira Toriyama. When the manga was adapted to anime, the series was split into two sub-series, called Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, respectively. Videl makes her first appearance in episode No. 185 of Dragon Ball Z. She also appears in a third anime-only sub-series (called Dragon Ball GT). She is the daughter of one of the comic characters of the series, a human named Hercule Satan. She later in the series, marries the Saiyan/Human hybrid Gohan, son of the series protagonist, a Saiyan named Goku. Videl's name follows the tradition of being from the Roman Mythology, like her father Hercule Satan and daughter Pan.
Her father, Mr. Satan is shown to be very protective of her, especially in respect to boys. Videl has grown up learning martial arts hoping to be as great as her dad, when in fact, unknown to herself she is already better than him. She is also shown to suspect her father for not defeating Cell and later finds out that her assumption was correct. She becomes suspicious of Gohan after meeting him at Orange Star High School, and she even follows him for a brief time to learn more about him. Videl eventually discovers Gohan’s secret identity as the Great Saiyaman. She forces Gohan to teach her how to fly, and makes him enter the 25th Tenka'ichi Budokai under the threat that she'll reveal his identity to the world. Further into the arc, she discovers that Gohan was the one who defeated Cell and learns about the other Z-Warriors. During their time together, Videl begins to fall in love with Gohan, which is shown notably when she becomes upset upon hearing of Gohan's supposed death. After the Buu saga, the two get together, and have a child named Pan.
This is the Toriyama bot or "Tori" bot, seen mostly in Dr. Slump and some of Dragon Ball. The creator of the two series, Akira Toriyama, based it on himself.

- After the success of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama created a self-parody manga titled Neko Majin Z, which features Son Goku and Vegeta, and introduced a new Saiyan named Onio, who also has the ability to transform into a Super Saiyan. In the series, the Super Saiyan transformation was altered slightly, where the aura of the regular Super Saiyan contains bolts of electricity.
- Goku is one of the most well-known fictional characters in Japanese popular culture. Other manga artists, such as Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto and One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, have stated that Goku inspired their series' main protagonists.
