It has been five years since the events of the first film. A new family, the Walsh's, have moved into the former home of Nancy Thompson. The Walsh's son, Jesse (Mark Patton), happens to move into Nancy's old room. He eventually begins to have nightmares of Freddy (Robert Englund) demanding that Jesse kill for him and using Jesse as a host body to come back to life in the real world. Nightmare series creator Wes Craven refused to work on this film because he never wanted or intended A Nightmare on Elm Street to become an ongoing franchise (and even wanted the first film to have a happy ending), and also because the movie changed the premise of the first film with Freddy deciding to attack people in the waking world, rather than avoiding this in favor of killing people in their dreams. Craven also said that he did not like the idea of Freddy manipulating the protagonist into committing the murders. Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Box-header/colours' not found.
Langenkamp's first acting venture was in her late teens: a small part in Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders (1983), filmed to a large extent in Tulsa, while she was attending Booker T Washington High School. While she was studying at Stanford University, Wes Craven cast her as teen heroine Nancy Thompson in A Nightmare on Elm Street, the first film in the series. She starred in two of the film's sequels. In between starring roles, she played Marie Lubbock on the television series Just the Ten of Us from 1988 to 1990. Langenkamp starred in Fugitive Mind in 1999. In 2007, she played a role in the Italian independent film The Bet. She is also credited as AFX production coordinator as Heather Langenkamp Anderson on the 2007 film Evan Almighty.
