Payyavoor is a village in Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala. The Festival in the Temple of Lord Siva here is very famous which is celebrated from 1 to 12 Kumbham . There is a Knanaya Catholic Church in the town named St. Anne's Church. There are some establishments like Panchayat Office, Village Office, Police Station, Hospitals, Schools at this place. There is a mosque also the presence of which signifies the harmonious co-existence of the people. People of Hindu, Christian and Muslim religions live here in utmost communal harmony. Almost all the basic facilities are here and the people depend Sreekandapuram or Iritty for their further needs.

Oottu Festival at Shiva Temple

The Oottufestival at the temple of Lord Shiva is the unique celebration of the village. It is celebrated from 1 to 12 of Kumbam, the 7th month as per the Malayalam Calendar, every year. People, irrespective of caste and religion, come to celebrate this festival. People from Kodagu district (Karnataka) also come for the festival with offerings.[1] The Festival starts on February 12 (Makaram 30) and ends on February 24 (Kumbham 12). The Festival is considered as 'Sangamma' of Kodagu-Malayalee peoples. Before starting festival Kodagu people come with Bullock (Call as 'ERUTHU')with Rice and that rice used for Prasada oota for festival time. There are so many history behind this festival. Payyavoor is a village very close to Karnataka.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census, Payyavoor had a population of 22,998 with 11,373 males and 11,625 females.[2]
