New Eersterust (Nuwe Eersterus) is a township in northwestern Gauteng province, South Africa, about 39 km northwest of Pretoria. It is bordered to the west by Soshanguve and to the east by Hammanskraal. The township is commonly known as "Eestrus"[citation needed].

History

It was incorporated into the Gauteng province in 2004 under the jurisdiction of the Tshwane Metro.

Economics

The township is one of the most underdeveloped in the Tshwane Area. The township is known for its nightlife and party scene. Weekends are never completed without parties.[citation needed]

Education

The mostly widely spoken language is Tswana, since New Eersterust boasts with 4 primary schools with SeTswana as a medium of instruction, 1 high school and a secondary school.[citation needed]

Subdivisions

The township is divided in blocks A, B, C, D1, D2, E, F1, F2, F3, F4 and Soutpan, where the Tswaing crater museum is situated. The museum is situated 3 km away from the bustling township centre.
