Nirakkoottu (Malayalam: നിറക്കൂട്ട്‌) is a 1985 Malayalam film directed by Joshy, written by Dennis Joseph, and starring Mammootty. The music was by Shyam.[1][2][3] It was remade in Tamil as Manithanin Marupakkam starting Sivakumar and in Kannada as Satya Jyothi starring Vishnuvardhan and Sumalatha

Plot

Sasikala Varghese (Urvashi) wants to find out about Ravi Varma (Mammootty), who is sentenced to death for the murder of his wife Mercy (Sumalatha) who is also Sasikala's sister. Journalist Sasikala covers and receives acclaim for the story of the once-wealthy but now death-sentenced convict Ravi Varma, for the cruel murder of his ex-wife Mercy, a beautiful model. A day before his scheduled execution, Ravi Varma escapes prison, and a deeper story that ties him, Sasikala and other characters unfolds in the events that follow.

Reception

The movie was the highest grosser of that year.It was well accepted by audience.The movie ran for more than 250 days in major centers.[citation needed]

Awards

Mammootty won the Special Mention in 1985 Kerala State Film Awards and secured Filmfare Award for his role as Ravi Varma.
K.S.Chithra won the Kerala State Film Awards in 1985 Best Play Back Singer for the song "Poomaname"
