Morganton is a town in Fannin County, Georgia, United States. The population was 299 at the 2000 census.

History

Morganton served as seat of Fannin County from 1854 until 1895, when the seat was transferred to Blue Ridge.

As of the census of 2000, there were 299 people, 121 households, and 87 families residing in the small country town. The population density was 350.8 people per square mile (135.8/km²). There were 152 housing units at an average density of 178.4 per square mile (69.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.67% White, 0.32% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.33% of the population.

There were 121 households out of which 27.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.4% were married couples living together, 23.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 47.3% were non-families. 35.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.15.

In the town the population was spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 23.1% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
