Masao Ito (伊藤 正男 Itō Masao?, born December 4, 1928) is a Japanese neuroscientist, and director of the Riken Brain Science Institute.[2] He won the 2006 Gruber Prize in Neuroscience[3] and the 1996 Japan Prize.[4] He was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society in 1992.[5]

Life

Dr. Ito graduated from the University of Tokyo with an M.D. in 1953 and a Ph.D. in 1959. He was a research fellow at Australian National University from 1959 to 1962. He taught at the University of Tokyo from 1963.[6]
