The Nashville Sounds minor league baseball team has employed 26 managers and 9 general managers since its inception in Nashville, Tennessee, in the 1978 season.[1] Three managers have guided the team to win their league's championship.[2] George Scherger led the team to win the Southern League Championship in the 1979 season as the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.[3] Johnny Oates managed the team to another Southern League title in 1982 as the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.[3] In the 2005 season, as the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, Frank Kremblas led the team to win the Pacific Coast League Championship.[4] Steve Scarsone is the team's current manager; he managed his first Sounds game at the start of the 2015 season.[5]

During a two-week period in July and August 1988, the Sounds went through five different managers.[6] The team started the season with Jack Lind, who left due to health problems.[6] His position was filled on an interim basis by pitching coach Wayne Garland until former manager George Scherger, manager of the 1979 Southern League championship Sounds, was hired.[6] He retired after one game and was replaced by Jim Hoff, who stayed a few days before taking up a position with the Cincinnati Reds' front office.[6] Finally, former Texas Rangers manager Frank Lucchesi was hired to lead the Sounds for the rest of the season.[6]

Three former Sounds players have also managed the Sounds. Seven games into the 1985 season, Leon Roberts, who started the season as a Nashville outfielder, became the acting manager for seven games due to manager Lee Walls coming down with an illness.[7] Roberts was replaced by Gordon Mackenzie and returned to playing for the Sounds. After later retiring from playing, Roberts was hired to manage the 1986 team. Wayne Garland, who pitched for the Sounds in 1982, managed the team briefly during the 1988 managerial shuffle. Marty Brown managed the Sounds from 2001 to 2002 after having played for Nashville in 1988 and 1989.

Trent Jewett won 320 games from 1998 to 2000 and 2003 to 2004, placing him first on the all-time wins list for Sounds managers.[1] Having managed the team for 624 games, he is also the longest-tenured manager in team history.[1] The manager with the highest winning percentage over a full season or more is Stump Merrill, whose .622 winning percentage is fifth on the all-time wins list for Sounds managers.[1] Conversely, the lowest winning percentage over a season or more is .437 by manager Mike Guerrero.[1]

Twelve men have served in the capacity of General Manager for the Sounds. Adam Nuse is team's current General Manager.[8] Five men have held principal ownership of the team. Larry Schmittou was the majority shareholder from the team's start until he sold his interest to Al Gordon after the 1996 season.[9][10] Current owners Frank Ward and Masahiro Honzawa purchased Gordon's stake in the team after the 2008 season.[11]
