La Sera is an American indie rock band formed by Katy Goodman (former bassist of Vivian Girls) in 2010.[1][2] They have released four albums and toured internationally.

History

Goodman is originally from New Jersey.[3]

The band started in 2010, with Goodman writing songs and Brady Hall producing.[4] They released the video for their first single "Never Come Around" on Halloween 2010.[5] Following the February release of the self titled album, La Sera toured the US with Tennis and Europe with Jenny Lewis.[6]

Their second studio album Sees the Light was produced by Rob Barbato (Darker My Love), and the first song on the record "Love That's Gone" is featured in Rocksmith 2014.[7] Following this record, the band toured the US with Father John Misty.[8] In 2012 Wisenbaker joined the band that also include Nate Lotz on drums and Greta Morgan on rhythm guitar. Around the same time Goodman moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles.[3]

The band released their third album Hour of the Dawn in May 2014, and it was produced by Todd Wisenbaker (Whispertown 2000, Jenny and Johnny) and engineered by Joel Jerome (Babies on Acid, Dios) during the summer of 2013.[3][9] In contrast to previous records, Goodman worked with the other band members on the songs, noting that "we all worked on the new record for about a year, writing and editing".[3] During production the band decided to make the album "sound to be ‘80s rock. The Smiths, The Pretenders".[10] Wisenbaker contributed the song "10 Headed Goat Wizard" and described the album as "a classic American record".[11] The critical reaction described Hour of the Dawn as having "new-found optimism".[3]

La Sera toured with Kate Nash and The Julie Ruin in fall 2013 to promote the album.[12][13][14] After the release, the band did a full European tour with Springtime Carnivore, ending at Primavera Festival.[15][16] La Sera also did a West Coast Tour with King Tuff, and the show on November 6, 2014 was filmed to be on Last Call with Carson Daly.[17] Three songs were aired on "Last Call" on March 17, 2015: "Please Be My Third Eye," "Fall In Place," and "10 Headed Goat Wizard." [18] The music video for "Fall in Place" was premiered by Entertainment Weekly on June 11, 2014.[19]

In March 2016 the band released the Ryan Adams produced Music for Listening to Music to through Polyvinyl.[20] It was preceded by the single "High Notes" that appeared in December 2015.[21] On March 3, 2016, the second single "I Need an Angel" appeared.[22]

Personal life

Goodman took a degree in computer science and works as a part-time coder.[23] She is married to Todd Wisenbaker and lives in Los Angeles.[20]
