Jaideep Sahni (born 1968) is an Indian screenwriter, songwriter and creative producer, most known for screenplays of films like Chak De! India, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Company, Bunty Aur Babli and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year and many popular songs he has written.

He won the Filmfare Award for Best Dialogue as well as Filmfare Award for Best Story for Company (2002), followed by Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay for Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006). He also won the IIFA award 2008 for best story, for Chak De! India .

Early life and education

Born and brought up in New Delhi,[1] Jaideep Sahni known as JD by his friends in the Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Bidar was respected by his classmates as an intelligent boy. The irony is that he hardly watched any Hindi movies during that time. He was generally a quiet person, and was well liked by all his class mates. Sahni started as a computer Engineer,[2] He worked with a company named NIIT.

Career

He turned lyricist after jam sessions with rock band, Euphoria’s Palash Sen, and screenwriter after discovering the screenplay for film Gandhi in a New Delhi bookshop at age 27.[1] His first film, Jungle (2000), directed by Ram Gopal Verma was a critical failure, but a commercial success. But their second film, Company (film), a commercial and critical success was nominated for eleven Filmfare Awards and won seven of them. Post company he worked with Dibakar Banerjee in Khosla Ka Ghosla which was well received by critics and met with reasonable box office success. Since then he continues to work for Yash Raj Films, where he started as a screenwriter for the film Bunty Aur Babli directed by Shaad Ali which was a box office success and a major breakthrough in Abhishek Bachchan's career.

He then wrote the script of Chak De! India, directed by Shimit Amin, who was also an assistant to Ram Gopal Varma before joining Yashraj films. The movie starred Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan as the coach of Indian hockey team, and was loosely based on the real-life story of Maharaj Krishan Kaushik,.[1] The movie was praised by critics and went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2007. His next film, Aaja Nachle directed by Anil Mehta was not well received by critics and was a box office flop. His latest film Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, the third film of Shimit Amin, was a box office failure despite the critical acclaim it received.
