Georgia Slowe (born 3 June 1966 in North London) is an English actress.

Background

Georgia grew up in a Jewish home as the daughter of parents, Michael and Zsuzsi. Georgia has one sister, Tania, who is three years older.

Her Hungarian-born mother, Zsuzsi, was hidden in a cellar during the Second World War after her mother, Litzy, was murdered by Hungarian soldiers. Her father had been taken to Russia by the Hungarians as a slave labourer. Her grandfather survived the Holocaust and was reunited with his daughter after the liberation. Zsuzsi escaped the country after the 1956 revolution at the age of 16.

Georgia's father, Michael, is of Russian descent.

Career

Georgia began acting when she was a child and in a career that has spanned nearly 30 years, she has worked alongside Angela Lansbury (The Company of Wolves), Jenny Agutter (Secret Places), Oliver Reed (Black Arrow) and Richard Chamberlain (Wallenberg). As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Georgia has starred in numerous theatre productions, including Romeo & Juliet, where she played the doomed heroine twice, alongside Mark Rylance and David Harewood. She and David had a short relationship during the production. In 1989, Georgia was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for her performance in Romeo & Juliet.

She made a guest appearance on The Family Channel's Zorro as the Native American maiden, Keenona, in its episode "Rites of Passage".

Her Jewish heritage allowed Georgia to bring some authenticity to her roles in two productions based on the Holocaust; The Attic: The Hiding of Anne Frank with Mary Steenburgen and Wallenberg with Richard Chamberlain

In 2006, Georgia appeared in the long-running serial drama Emmerdale as the new lady of the manor, Perdita Hyde-Sinclair. Her final appearance was broadcast on 22 July 2008, an episode which, for the first time in over three months, beat BBC soap EastEnders in the ratings battle.

In 2011, she appeared in the short film Lab Rats.

Georgia is currently writing a script for a television sitcom with comedian and actor Alistair Barrie.

Georgia has set up a film production company Slowe Motion Film She has made a short film Four Tails which she wrote, produced and appeared in. It has been accepted into film festivals all over the world. She is currently working on her next project.

Personal life

Georgia married fashion designer Ray Kelvin, the founder of the Ted Baker clothing chain, in May 1993. They have two sons together. She and Kelvin divorced in 2000. She currently lives with portrait photographer Stuart McClymont.
