Dukhovshchinsky District (Russian: Духовщи́нский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the twenty-five in Smolensk Oblast, Russia. It is located in the north of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,610.78 square kilometers (1,008.03 sq mi).[1] Its administrative center is the town of Dukhovshchina.[1] Population: 16,658 (2010 Census);[4] 19,182 (2002 Census);[7] 23,720 (1989 Census).[8] The population of Dukhovshchina accounts for 42.4% of the district's total population.[4]
