Chicken Salad Chick is a fast casual chain of chicken restaurants based in Auburn, Alabama.[1][2][3] As of November 2015, the chain consists of 43 franchise restaurants and 8 company-owned stores.[2] Chicken Salad Chick has restaurants in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The company plans to expand into Louisiana & Texas sometime in 2016.[2][4] The company was founded in Auburn, Alabama in 2008 by Stacy and Kevin Brown.[2][3]

History

The company's origins started with Stacy Brown selling her homemade chicken salad door-to-door in Auburn, Alabama.[1][2] The health department prohibited the sale of foods cooked in one's home, so the Browns devised a plan to open a restaurant.[1][2]

Fare

The restaurant concept serves 15 styles of chicken salad, which is served on bread or a bed of lettuce.[2] It also sells chicken salad by the pound for take-out.[2] Additionally, it purveys delicatessen-style sandwiches and side dishes.[2]

Awards

The Chicken Salad Chick location in Panama City Beach, Florida won the 2014 People's Choice Award in its second annual franchise awards.[3]

In October 2014, it was named the 2014 Restaurateur of the Year by the Alabama Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance.[5]

Recently, it was honored with the 2015 Breakout Brand by Nation's Restaurant News.[6]

Philanthropy

The Chicken Salad Chick Foundation was founded by the company in August 2014 and is a partner with the American Cancer Society.[7] The foundation also partners with food banks in communities with Chicken Salad Chick restaurant locations in efforts to nourish people in need.[7] For example, in 2014, the foundation donated over $6,000 to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.[8] Since the foundation's inception, Chicken Salad Chick restaurants have served to generate "...more than $100,000 in donations to fight cancer and hunger in the communities it serves".[9] Barclay Smith is the director of the foundation.[7]
