Cavatelli [kavaˈtɛlli] are a type of pasta. The term cavatelli, literally "little hollows",[lower-alpha 1] has two meanings: the most common meaning is small pasta shells that look like miniature hot dog buns.[1] The name is less frequently used for a type of dumpling made with ricotta.[1]

Regional names and varieties

Cavatelli are also known by the name orecchie di prete (priest's ears).[2] In Apulia a number of varieties of Cavatelli have specific names including pizzicarieddi.[2] In parts of Campania, they can be called parmarieddo.[2]
