Canning Paschim (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is an assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is reserved for scheduled castes.

Overview

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 138 Canning Paschim (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (SC) is composed of the following: Canning I community development block and Narayanpur gram panchayat of Canning II community development block.[1]

Canning Paschim (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 19 Jaynagar (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]

1977-2006 Canning West

In the 2006 state assembly elections,[14] Dwijapada Mondol of CPI(M) won the Canning West (SC) seat defeating his nearest rival, Gobinda Chandra Naskar of Trinamool Congress. In 2001,[13] Gobinda Chandra Naskar representing Congress defeated Bimal Mistry of CPI(M). Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Bimal Mistry of CPI(M) defeated Bhaskar Sinha of Congres in 1996[12] and 1991.[11] Gobinda Chandra Naskar of Congress defeated Chittaranjan Mirdha of CPI(M) in 1987.[10] Chittaranjan Mirdha of CPI(M) defeated Gobinda Chandra Naskar of Congress in 1982[9] and 1977.[8][17]

1957-1972 Canning

Gobinda Chandra Naskar of Congress won in 1972[7] and 1971.[6] Narayan Naskar of Congress won in 1969.[5] A.C.Halder of Bangla Congress won in 1967.[4] Khagendra Nath Naskar of Congress won in 1962.[3] In 1957[2] Canning was a dual seat. It was won by Khagendra Nath Naskar and Abdus Shukur, both of Congress.
