The clan claims descent from the Akamatsu clan and from the Murakami-Genji.[1]

Hizen Arima
The Arima clan based in Hizen claims descent from Fujiwara Sumitomo.[2]
In the Shimabara Rebellion, former Arima vassals, many Christian, made one of the most significant threats to Tokugawa rule.[citation needed]
