"All Star" is a song by American rock band Smash Mouth. It was released on May 4, 1999 as the second single from their album Astro Lounge, and is one of the group's most successful songs, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Due to its success, the song served as the opening track of the 1999 compilation album Now That's What I Call Music! 3
The music video (directed by McG) features cameos by William H. Macy, Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria, Paul Reubens, Kel Mitchell, Dane Cook, Doug Jones and Janeane Garofalo from the film 1999 Mystery Men, which prominently featured the song. The song has made several other film appearances, in particular being used in the 2001 film Shrek and being performed by the band in the film Rat Race, also in 2001.
Reception
"All Star" received generally positive reviews from music critics. The song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart[3] and No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.[3] In Canada, it peaked at No. 2 on the RPM singles chart[4] and was featured on the compilation album, Big Shiny Tunes 4.

- The song is featured in the 2001 comedy film Rat Race, where Smash Mouth, hosting a Charity concert, performs the song, closing out the film.
- In addition to Mystery Men, it was heavily used in the Shrek franchise to promote the series, especially the first film during the opening credits, while introducing the character, Shrek. The song was also featured in the soundtrack to Digimon: The Movie, Go Tigers!, and Inspector Gadget, as well as on Radio Disney Jams, Vol. 3.
- The song is used in the first movie trailer for the second Shrek film.
- The song is featured in many TV programs such as The Larry Sanders Show, Ally McBeal, ER, Cold Case, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (episode "One False Movie") and Tom Goes to the Mayor (episode "Vehicular Manslaughter"). It was also played in the broadcast of the 2002 Oscars.
- An action figure of Bob the Builder by Learning Curve, "You're a Builder" Dancing Bob", sings a song called "You're a Builder" to the tune of this song.
- The song is featured in the music video games Guitar Hero: On Tour for DS, as DLC for Lips on Xbox 360, the Rock Band series, Alvin and the Chipmunks as performed by Alvin and the Chipmunks, and the North American release of Donkey Konga 2 for GameCube. The song is also included in the video game Splashdown.
