Stockport County

He then joined Stockport County,[6] where he was made captain and made 44 first-team appearances, scoring five goals in the 2005–06 season.[4] He was released by Stockport at the end of the 2005–06 season,[7]

Rotherham United Coaching Career

Rotherham-born Matt, is no stranger to the Millers, previously lining up against them for Macclesfield Town and Notts County in recent years, as well as being in opposition at Don Valley and Millmoor for Mansfield Town and of course Sheffield Wednesday. However, what people may not realise is that whilst he’s been a thorn in the side of the Millers on the field, he’s been working with his hometown club for the past five years as a part-time coach with various youth teams. After his contract with relegated Macclesfield Town ran out in the summer of 2012, Matt made the switch into full-time coaching with the Millers, whilst continuing to play in the Evo-Stick League for Stocksbridge Park Steels. Taking on the role of Development Phase Lead Coach he overseas the development of the 12-16 year old's at New York, whilst he also coaches youngsters at Thomas Rotherham College.

Personal

He is married to Kerry, 33 and has two daughters. Their firstborn child, a son born in 2007, was stillborn.[15]
